Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) has seen a resurgence in recent years. The area has grown with developments like LA Live and new construction of skyscrapers in the business district. One of the largest and most notable projects going on today is The Grand, a 1 billion dollar project taking up a full city block. The famed architect Frank Gehry has designed this mixed-use complex featuring apartments, restaurants, shops, and a luxury hotel which is sure to draw tourists and locals alike. Construction of this development is complex; that’s where Bragg Crane Service and Bragg Crane & Rigging come in.

Bragg Companies has been contracted on The Grand project twice. First, Bragg Crane & Rigging erected two tower cranes to support the construction of the concrete towers. Bragg’s team stayed on to operate the tower cranes over a two-year span. With a focus on safety and efficiency, our crews coordinated the jumps and eventual dismantling of the 115 ton capacity tower cranes.

Midway through the project, Bragg Crane Service  brought in our Liebherr LR1300 to erect a structural steel façade on the site. With a zero-lot line clearance on the site, the crawler crane was assembled in a full street closure on Grand Avenue and then walked onto the building footprint.

This crane was supported by a timber mat foundation on shoring towers, a set up designed by Bragg Companies’ in-house engineering team. The steel erection was completed over several weeks with the crane operating perfectly within the tight confines of the structure.
